Table Of Contents Paula Modugno Okin is an ASHA certified and New York State licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and a certified Teacher of the Speech And Hearing Handicapped. Ms. Okin has over 16 years experience working with infants, children and adults with varying degrees of communication impairments. Ms. Okin is the former assistant director of the Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders at Adelphi University and has worked in school settings, universities and in developmental centers. Ms. Okin has presented research papers on autism and the communication disorders of the severely handicapped, as well as on stuttering disorders at local, regional and national conventions. Ms. Okin has published in the areas of administration and the computerization of a speech and hearing program. More recently, Ms. Okin has focused her interests on professional issues, managed care, and other matters pertinent to the practicing of the profession.

Ms. Okin received her masters degree from Queens College and has completed 10 credits in the Doctor of Arts program at Adelphi University. Ms. Okin earned 3 awards for Continuing Education from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is anticipating the receipt of a 4th award, which is in progress.

Ms. Okin has been director of North Shore Speech-Language Associates, a private practice serving Long Island and the surrounding boroughs, since 1983. North Shore Speech-Language Associates is comprised of 25 speech-language pathologists and other professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating infants, children and adults with various speech, language, learning and hearing disorders.

Ms. Okin is a member of the Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council, the Data Review Committee, and is chair of the Public Awareness/Child Find Committee of the Nassau County Department of Health Early Intervention Program. In her involvement with these organizations, she makes recommendations to local and state agencies regarding the servicing of children with developmental disabilities.

Ms. Okin serves on the Private Practice Committee of the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and will serve as Delegate of Private Practice to the Executive Board of this same organization for 1998-2000. Ms. Okin is also the Private Practice Councilor of the Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
